Excellence in Nursing Administration

Jo-Ann Tait

Jo-Ann is an incredibly grounded, respected and transformative leader at Providence Health Care (PHC). In 20 years as an RPN she has consistently demonstrated excellence in nursing, education, leadership and care for seniors. She is a visionary and empowering servant leader who influences culture change through shared visioning, empowerment of the people she serves (staff, patients, residents and their loved ones), commitment to staff development and leading by example.

Jo-Ann has accomplished more in her years at PHC than many leaders accomplish over the course of their entire career. In her initial PHC role as Site-Operations Leader for Youville, she had unprecedented GALLUP scores reflecting highly valued and engaged staff. In two years as Program Director of Elder Care and Palliative Services Program, Jo-Ann has established a revolutionary new vision and model of residential care through the innovative human centred “Residential Care for Me” program which pieces together the individual experiences of people who live, work and visit PHC residential care sites.

She is an advocate for improving seniors care in our province and also shares this work at international conferences. Jo-Ann is spearheading improvements across her entire portfolio which includes residential care, assisted living, palliative care, hospice, geriatric medicine and tertiary mental health. She participates in research opportunities and is also an Adjunct Professor with the University of British Columbia (UBC) School of Nursing where she mentors upcoming leaders, reviews theses and is on the advisory board for the Master’s in Health, Leadership and Policy for Seniors Care.

Jo-Ann has been a Board Member for the Catholic Health Association of BC for 10 years. Her volunteer work has included reducing the stigma of mental illness and depression through workshops offered to priests and clergy across B.C. in order to help them support people in their communities. She is a highly respected leader who leads with her infectious positivity and values based leadership.
